Winner's Comment

I still cannot believe that our film, "A day of the life in Beijing Hutong" won the Grand Prix from many short films with high qualities. I would like to appreciate for all crew and cast in both China and Japan, and SSFF who give us the opportunity to screen. From now on, I continue to make films with overcoming the difference between culture and countries.

The life in the disappearing Hutong, is depicted in the film, but Hutong is real. Now Beijing Hutong is completely vanished and we are not able to see it anymore. We shot this film in Beijing Hutong in only four days but it was so lucky for us to record the people who was living there and disappearing Hutong.

Thank you so much! I was extremely pleased to learn of winning this award, it's an honor especially given the international nature of the festival.

My film is about cultural misunderstanding and communication, and it means so much to me that the jurors of this festival would appreciate these themes even when they are in the context of another culture and space. And honestly, an award like this gives me the encouragement and confidence to keep going and keep making films despite the difficulties inherent to this art form. Thank you!!

"Color of Paradise" was my school work and also the very first short film in my life, maybe it's not good enough in technique, but I really do it with all my heart and soul.

So thank you, SSFF so much to give me the award, which means a great encourage on my road of film dream!

Also the festival was good in organization, I make so many friends of filmmakers all over the world. It's not only a festival, but also a fantastic trip in Tokyo.

Wish the festival grow bigger and better, wish all the filmmakers could make their dreams come true.

Wish to be here again.

Making short films is the most "unrewarding" thing one can possibly do... no commercial value, no budget and financing is it's own drama in itself.

It was a drama but I did TOYLAND, a film set in Winter 1942 in Nazi-Germany. A story I always wanted to tell. A film about ignorance, truth and about making decisions.

Shooting this film was one of the most rewarding experiences in my film life 窶骭€ with a team completely devoted to this project, working with actors who were exited to do this film because they really wanted TOYLAND to be made. Thanks to all of them.

Thanks to Short Shorts. It was really great to be here in Tokyo. Short shorts is one of the best festivals I've ever been to. Great people, good films, and a lot of fun, too. Winning the audience award is amazing. I hope it will help my film to reach a wider audience all over the world.

Film is like a child. Child will walk on one's own. Filmmaker, parent, have to watch for them. However audience chooses this small child. It is honored to receive such a great audience award which is decided by people who watch this film. I am pleased to receive it, moreover, this "Your Sound” is pleased the most. I appreciate SSFF & Asia who give this opportunity for this film to be screened.

Casting, cinematography, recording, make-up, costume, music and animation, our crews do their best work for this film. They are my precious crew. I would like to thank them from. And let' make the newt one!!
