Masaaki Yuasa:
Masaaki Yuasa is dubbed a genius among fans, with his truly eccentric ideas and unique style. In 2004, while at STUDIO 4℃, he directed his first feature-length anime “Mind Game”, and in this film he also earned instant recognition as an excellent storyteller. His next directorial work was “Kemonozume”, a TV anime series full of romance and violence. He is one of the newer figured in the anime industry, but also regarded as one of the most important. Born 1965 in Fukuoka. After studying art at Kyushu Sangyo University Faculty of Fine Arts, he joined the animation studio Ajiado, and now enjoys success as an independent animator. Best known for his contribution in “Chibi Maruko-chan”, “Crayon Shin-chan”, and “Hakkenden”. Also credited as animation director, screenwriter, and planner in the direct-to-video animation “Cat Soup” directed by Tatsuo Sato, and as animation director, character designer, and layout designer in Shouji Morimoto’s “Noiseman Sound Insect”. His freewheeling imagination led him to success as a director, but many in the industry still regard him highly as an animator, and has invited him to participate in “Doraemon the Magic 2007”, the newest “Doraemon feature” film, and Samurai Champloo, among others.

2007.06.12 SSFF&ASIA Festival Banners are now up in Harajuku!
Since yesterday, streets of Omotesando have now been filled with the SSFF&ASIA festival flags that bring our festival sprits up. If you have a chance to walk around Omotesando area, please look above and see if you can find them!
Starting with the festival flags, our festival promotion will spread in Harajuku with TOKYO HEADLINE (June 18th), CUT (June 19th) and TOKYO WALKER (June 19th). SSFF&ASIA will have its special coverage in TOKYO HEADLINE to show our program line-up that would give you a sense of how to enjoy the festival. In CUT and TOKYO WALKER, the festival mini-catalogues will be available, which includes a 200 yen coupon for the admission ticket. You can take them around during your festival visit! Let’s find out your own way of enjoying the festival!

This year’s Jury includes Kentaro Otani (filmmaker), Sisyu (calligrapher), Shinobu Terashima (actress), Robin Mallick (General Secretary of the European Coordination of Film Festivals), and Ji-Tae Yoo (actor/filmmaker). They will choose Best Short Awards and Grand Prix.
In addition, SSFF&ASIA has Audience Awards to whom audiences’ votes will be counted. The festival will give out a cash prize to the Audience Award winners, so your vote will be really important! So, please participate in the voting!

2007.06.08 "Offside" is now being shown as a dubbed version!

This month’s Jewelry Short (shown on the Japanese site only) is "Offside" which was shown in SSFF2002 and is an excellent short film.This is our first attempt to create a dubbed version and we are excited to see the publics' reaction to it!
In addition, the SPACEALC website is holding the special event page on "What's the difference between 'Dubbing' and 'Subtitles'?" by referencing "Offside" as an educational tool.
You will definitely find it enlightening and will learn more about the modern world of subtitle translation. So check it out!
